Spiegeltent 2010 - Get it while you can!It only comes once a year and only lasts 10 days (so we can't be talking about Christmas) - it's the Fringe Spiegeltent - we're here again this year and hope you will be too.
Featuring yet another example of these marvellous and unique early 20th Century pleasure palaces -fresh over from its home in Belgium - and a bill of the sort of entertainment that doesn't visit Bath for the rest of the year, the Spiegeltent isn't the only highlight of the Fringe by any means, but we do try to make a succession of unforgettable bills that a wide range of different audiences can enjoy. See what suits you: folk or choral or dub hiphop, character comedy or song satire, kids' entertainers or strictly adult, established legends or new and unknown. If you can't find something you like, tell us and we'll try to fit one in next year!
Afternoons feature either the Kids' Festival (see their page) or a themed series of performers (Django style, vocal, acoustic, world eclectic...); early every evening we'll be previewing shows elsewhere in the Fringe or young local performers in the Spiegel Garden hosted by our friends Little Eskimo when the main show is setting up, so there ought to be always something going on or about to happen, and when the sun is out it's just a lovely place to hang out in the open air or the stained-glass and polished wood interior.
Due to work on the rugby pitches, we are at the far end of the Recreation Ground this year (regulars will remember we were there a few years ago), which is only a moment’s walk further from the river, but means a nicer and more open Garden space, so no harm done.
It's a venue that is nothing like anything else in town, a superb intimate space in the round to concentrate on solo performers, a dance hall from your dreams, or just the place where the most happening audience in the city is to be found for the duration, relaxing in the luxurious booths, mirrored bar or sunny garden... See you there! - or see how much you'll be missing...
