Onda de Amor presents
Soma Soma
Soma Soma are an 8-piece band performing their unique style of Afro-brazilian music. Based in Bristol, UK, Soma Soma are made up of Brazilian and British musicians and sing in Brazilian Portuguese. The vocal performances are powerful and emotive, conveying the passion of the music even for those who don’t understand the language.Supporting their latest album, Nem Toda Flor (2025), expect driving percussion, vintage horns, & hypnotic guitar lines that seamlessly blend Brazilian styles such as the rhythmic drive of Samba, the smooth melodies of Bossa Nova, and the soulful sway of Arrocha, with the vibrant energy of African Highlife, the groove of Afrobeat, and the infectious danceability of Soukous. They take an unorthodox approach to song writing which takes listeners on an emotional journey, swaying and listening intently to deep psychedelic soundscapes and dancing ecstatically to authentic Samba.Their third album ‘Nem Toda Flor Floresce O Ano Todo’ was released in November 2025. The album is a bold and deeply Brazilian exploration of identity, rhythm, and resilience. Written between Bristol and Brazil, the album showcases the band at their most expansive. They fuse Samba Rock, Partido Alto, Afoxé, Swingueira, Axé, and Maracatu with influences from the African diaspora, spiritual jazz and global fusion. The result is a vibrant, genre-blurring record that honours Brazil’s rich musical landscape while remaining unmistakably Soma Soma.Soma Soma have received international support from BBC Radio 6 Music, Jazz Fm, BBC Introducing, KCRW, Worldwide FM, 2SER,TMDQA, Mídia Ninja, Amazing Radio, Radio Alhara and Radio Dio.“It’s like being on holiday”- BBC Radio Bristol“WOW”- Gilles Peterson BBC Radio 6
